Eco School 2024-2025

Summer Term

This term, we shared saving water tips with our school community in our school newsletter. We also created posters to remind people to turn off the taps and placed them around school.

We had a day learning about the marine environment. Each class did some work to learn more about oceans and sea life and how to look after it.

Spring Term

In the Spring term, we then planned and delivered an assembly to introduce our action plan to the whole school. We shared the areas we were working on and our plans for each area.

Clumber Class made bird feeders, placing them in bushes and trees around school. They also took part in the Big School BirdWatch, learning to identify different birds. They also made biodegradable minibeast homes.

Elmton Class visited The Deep, learning about the marine environment as part of their topic on the Arctic.

Severn Trent came into school and led an assembly about water and how we use and reuse it. They worked with Thoresby Class for a lesson to learn about how water is filtered and reused as part of the water cycle.

Autumn Term

This term, each class voted for two Eco Committee members to start our Eco School work. We met together and also welcomed Mrs Wild and Mrs Smith.  Each class was given part of the Eco Review, which looks at different eco areas, such as biodiversity, energy or water and answered questions about what we do in school to do with this area. We met again and looked at the outcomes of the Eco Review. We chose 3 topics to work on, which were some of our lowest scores in the Eco Review. These 3 areas were:

  • Water
  • Biodiversity
  • Marine

We then thought about ideas for what we would like to do over the year in these areas and put our ideas together in an action plan.
