Religious Education
As a Church of England school, Religious Education is very important and is a core subject here at Luke’s. We aim to equip children with a deep knowledge and understanding of Christianity as a global faith, alongside a broad awareness of a range of religions and worldviews. Through engaging with stories and narratives from sacred texts, speaking with people of different beliefs, and exploring religious artefacts and practices, children develop empathy, tolerance, and respect for others. Our curriculum encourages pupils to ask and reflect on big questions about meaning and purpose, helping them to explore, express, and shape their own spiritual, philosophical, and moral perspectives. We strive to nurture thoughtful, open-minded individuals who are confident in their own beliefs while appreciating the diverse beliefs of others.
We follow the Nottinghamshire RE syllabus and use the Understanding Christianity resource to aid our teaching of Christianity. In Key Stage One, Judaism and Christianity are taught. In Key Stage Two, Hinduism, Islam and Humanism are also studied.
