Maths

This half term, we begin our learning in Maths by learning about fractions. This week, we focused on recognising and finding half of a shape and number and also a quarter. We learnt about equal groups and what these fractions mean, also discussing which is the bigger fraction. We all agreed we would rather have half a pizza than a quarter!

We have had a busy few weeks focusing on fractions - we have learnt so much! We have been recognising and finding a half, quarter and a third before moving on to find 2 or 3 quarters of a number as well as identifying the equivalence between a half and 2 quarters. We have used vocabulary such as unit fractions, non unit fractions, numerator and denominator to describe some of our learning and have been sharing using groups. We have now finished our new learning on fractions, but remember to keep coming back to it and refreshing your memory!

This week, we have been learning about time! We have studied the analogue clock, being able to read o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to before moving on to reading the time at 5 minute intervals. This part is super tricky, but remember that practise makes perfect! The more you can practise at home by checking the time regularly, the more confident you will begin to feel.
