History

In History, we have been developing our understanding of what timelines are. Now, we understand that timelines are used for ordering key events in date order. The children really enjoyed building on their knowledge of why timelines are used and how the build up from the key events lead to the Battle of Hastings. A group of children focused on one particular event and we put each event together to order and create our class timeline which will be displayed in our classroom!

We have been learning all about the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and William the Conqueror, who won this battle. We learnt about the different people who wanted to be King following the death of King Edward, including Harold Godwinson and Harold Hardrara. We acted out the battles and some of the class were the leaders with big armies behind them! We learned how arrows were shot down hills in order to create an advantage but in the end William of Normandy won and became King. We discussed how he built lots of castles in order to protect the country from further invasion and how all Kings and Queens have descended from him!
