We have completed retrieving information from The Secret Sky Garden story this week! We spent a few extra lessons on this as we spent time highlighting the key words in the questions so that we could see what exactly the question was asking us to focus on. Then, we used these key words from the question and included them in our answer. The children had to rewrite the story from another character's perspective which was tricky at first but they soon got the hang of it and produced some wonderful stories - well done!

This week, we have been focusing on the story 'The Secret Sky Garden'. We have discussed the vocabulary used in the text and discussed synonyms that could be used for words like 'smiled', 'dragged' and 'laughed'. The children have enjoyed predicting what could happen next in the story. We have been practising extending our answers by including the question in the answers rather than just writing the answer down, so that we can see that it is written in full sentences.

Whilst children have been completing their reading comprehension activities, I have been working with different groups throughout the week for their guided reading sessions. We have looked at the front cover and discussed what the front cover has and what we can take from the front cover to develop an understanding of what the story is about. It is really important to continue reading at home to develop fluency.
