Week Commencing 13th September 2021

Maths

This week in Maths we have been continuing with our place value learning. We have been using the correct mathematical terminology to discuss what would happen to a number when we need to round to the nearest 10, 100, 1000 or 10,000.

We have also been continuing to develop our mental arithmetic knowledge. This is something that we do at the start of every maths lesson and the children have started to develop their understanding of the different methods they can use to find the answer.

On Thursday, we started our first times table test. This is something that we will continue with every Thursday.

English

This week we have started our class book Friend or Foe by Michael Morpurgo. This book fits in nicely with our class topic World War Two and we have had some interesting conversations about the characters in the story. We have started to use the story to visualise the main characters and develop a character profile based on what they know and what they predict.

Drumba

On Tuesday we had our second session of Drumba. We are thoroughly enjoying these sessions and are finding them a benefit not just for their overall fitness but for learning drumming techniques. I have been extremely impressed with the children's attitude during these sessions.

Swimming

This week we continued to work in our groups to develop our confidence in the water. Depending on the group, we used a range of different equipment including floats and pool noodles. Most groups have been developing their skills with the front crawl.

P.S.H.E.

We have started our Friendships and Relationships topic this week and we have started to discuss the qualities of good friends. We created pictures of our friends and wrote kind things about them.
