Sherwood Class

Science Day

We all really enjoyed our class science day conducting our own experiments, learning about Sir David Attenborough and becoming naturalists. Follow the link below to the school Science page to find out more and see our photographs from the day.

We really enjoyed sharing out favourite books with each other for World Book Day.

Harry Potter is very popular as well as a huge variety of other fiction and non-fiction books.

Have a look at all our costumes.

Spelling Information

Dear Parents/Carers and Children,

Welcome to Sherwood Class, I hope you are all looking forward to the new year and returning to school. I am looking forward to teaching you all and I am sure we are going to have fun and enjoy all the different topics and learning we will achieve together.

Our first topic will be The Tudors where we will learn all about the different Monarchs that reigned over Britain during this time as well as people’s way of life during this period of history.

Over the course of the year, we will also be exploring Rivers and Mountains, The Ancient Greeks and Planet Earth, when we will be learning about Space, as well as a variety of animals and climates on our planet.

Reading Books

Reading will continue as before. Children will be given a book and will be expected to read at least three times in a week. Books will be changed on a Friday. The online reading log will need to be filled in each week by grown-ups to confirm that children have read three times that week. This will be accessed in the same way through the school website. This log also provides an opportunity for you to share how your child has found the book through a series of questions and a comment box.

Homework

Homework will be given out to the children on a Friday and the hand in date will be the following Wednesday. Homework will be based on work that the children have been doing in class with a focus on Maths.  Please email homework to the class email address sheerwood@st-lukes.notts.sch.uk by 4pm on a Wednesday. Please Note: While our class name is Sherwood, the spelling sheerwood on our class email address is the correct email.

P.E

P.E. lessons will continue with Tony on a Wednesday.  Children should come to school wearing the appropriate sports clothing for P.E. Children do not need to bring their uniform.

Swimming

Swimming lessons will take place from Wednesday 8th September in Retford. Children should come to school wearing their swimming kit underneath their sports clothes and bring an additional plastic bag to use as storage for their clothes. Additional information can be found by following the link below.

Drumba

During the first half term, the children will have a Drumba session each Tuesday afternoon. Please could children also come to school in PE kit on Tuesdays for this.

Morning Routine

Children will enter and leave school through the reception area. Please ensure your child is lined up in front of the prayer garden by 8:45am.

As we have limited storage space in our classroom this year, please can I ask for pencil cases to be left at home, this also limits any risk of belongings being lost or damaged. All equipment needed will be provided by school. Children are welcome to bring a book bag or school bag if they wish, however, could I ask for this to be as small as possible due to the space. Children should only be bringing to school the items they need for the day.

If you or your child have any questions or concerns about the school year, please feel free to contact me via email or phone through the school office.

I look forward to working with you all this year.

Miss Hunter.
