Phonics focus of the day - 20th April, 2020 -

The 'i' sound on it's own -'igh' - as in 'find'

  • Can you say this sound?
  • Can you make a list of words with this sound in them?
  • Can you practise writing this sound?

If a grown up writes these words can you read them? - find, mind, kind, behind, mild, remind, child, blind, wild.

  • Can you underline the digraph and add your sound buttons?
  • Can you write 1 sentence using 1 or more of these words in it?

The 'ow' sound - as in 'oa' (snow)

  • Can you say this sound?
  • Can you make a list of words with this sound in them?
  • Can you practise writing this sound?

If a grown up writes these words can you read them? - snow, blow, glow, throw, barrow, flow, grows, sparrow, window, crow, follow, rainbow, pillow

  • Can you underline the digraph and add your sound buttons?
  • Can you write 1 sentence using 1 or more of these words in it?

Phonics focus of the day - 22nd April, 2020 -

 

The o_e sound - as in 'oa' (stone) It's another split digraph today, so you will need your super split digraph spotting glasses on!

  • Can you say this sound?
  • Can you make a list of words with this sound in them?
  • Can you practise writing this sound?

If a grown up writes these words can you read them? - stone, hole, rope, globe, rose, smoke, phone, note.

Can you write these words if a grown up reads them out loud? - those, spoke, cone, nose

  • Can you put in the split digraph smile and add your sound buttons?
  • Can you write 2 sentence using 1 or more of these words in it?

Alphablocks - 'oa' and 'o_e' sound

Today we are going to look at two more ways that we can use the 'oa' sound - 'o' on it's own and 'oe' - There are so many spelling choices that use the 'oa' sound!

  • Can you say this sound?
  • Can you make a list of words with this sound in them?

If a grown up writes these words can you read them? - cold, scold, old, toe, oboe, foe, post, bold, fold, Joe, most, gold

 

  • Can you write 2 sentence using 1 or more of these words in it?

Today I would like you to look back and recap all the sounds from this week. 

We have had:

'i' sound - find, kind

'ow' sound - snow, glow

'o_e' sound - a split digraph! - stone, bone

'o' sound - as in 'oa' - cold, fold

'oe' sound - toe, foe

 

We have looked at 5 new sounds! 5 new spellings choices. Can you remember all of them? Have a look through some of the video clips and practise them again. Which sounds are you struggling to spot in the words?
