Creswell Class

Hello and welcome to

Creswell Class!

Foundation Stage 2

BIG welcome to everyone in Creswell Class, I hope you are all ready for a fun and exciting year.

When you first arrive at school, can you please make a single line in front of our gate and wait for a member of staff to come out and collect you. We will then be able to walk into our cloakroom and find our peg!

Here are the names of the topics for the Autumn term:

Autumn term 1 – Enchanted Worlds — Woodland Animals, Trolls, Mythical creatures and the traditional tale of Hansel and Gretel. We will be designing and creating our own fairy/pixie puppets.

Autumn term 2 – Frozen Planet - What would it be like to work in our very own ice-cream factory? Are we up to the challenge of creating a new awesome flavour? In this topic we will also be looking at the Arctic, polar bears and penguins and also the film Frozen.

Spring term 1 – Superheroes -We will be looking at famous superheroes and writing our own superhero adventures. We will also be designing our very own superhero capes! We will be reading the ‘Traction Man’ stories by Mini Grey.

Summer term 1 – Rio De Vida - Hot! Hot! Hot! Let’s dance to the Samba beat! In this topic we will be learning all about Brazil/Rio. We will be looking at the country, carnivals, the music and ‘Rio’ the film.

Summer term 2 – Bright Lights, Big City - What do you know about England’s capital city? Let’s find out about our capital city including history, transport and famous landmarks.

Reading Books

We will be giving out two new reading books each week so that you can practise your reading at home as often as you like. Please can you ask a grown-up to fill in the reading log each week so that we can see if you have read at least three times. The reading log is on the class page section on the school website. We will check this at the end of each week to see how you have been doing. If you have read three times that week, we shall add a stamp on to your reading rangers bookmark! When you have completed this you shall receive a certificate. You should always hand in your books every Monday morning so that they can be changed and given back to you. Please can all reading books be kept in the labelled plastic wallets - thank you.

Homework and Spellings

You will be given a homework sheet that will include a task to complete as well as some phonics and spellings tasks. Any tasks will need to be sent into our class email - creswell@st-lukes.notts.sch.uk. This will be given out on Friday and should be emailed in on the Wednesday. The task will be a fun task either about something we have been learning about in class or researching something for the following week. It will also include a list of phonic sounds/words to read and a set of keywords (spellings) to practise for the following week. Let me know if you have any trouble accessing a computer at home for these tasks. You will be rewarded for how hard you try with tree tokens.

P.E

One of our P.E. lessons will be with Tony, our sports coach every Thursday morning and I will be teaching P.E on Wednesday afternoons. You should come to school wearing the appropriate sports clothing for P.E on both of these days. Please note - Drumba has now finished, so the children will only need to come to school wearing appropriate clothing for P.E on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Please can I ask for all other equipment such as pencil cases etc, be left at home. All equipment needed will be provided by school. You will only need to bring your own lunchbox (If you are not having a school lunch) drinks bottle and a book bag. Please can I ask that all uniform/bags/bottles are clearly labelled.

Again, please feel free to contact me if you or your child has any worries in the next year. The best time to speak to me is after school, as you can appreciate that during the morning we need to register and begin lessons. Mrs Batters and Miss Halpin will be on the door each morning, so you can pass on any messages to them. Alternatively your adults can always call the school to arrange a time to speak with me.

Thank you,

Miss C. Browes
