Chinese New Year

We have had a fantastic afternoon celebrating Chinese New Year. We started the afternoon learning about the tradition of Chinese New Year and how animals were chosen to represent the years. We then discussed what animal the children were born under and discussed the upcoming years.

We then discussed how Chinese New Year is celebrated including dancing, cleaning and the offering of food. We were then lucky to participate in a Chinese dragon dance class with Rebecca. We were taught how to dance to traditional Chinese music and then had the opportunity to wear dragon masks and lion masks. Some children were even able to dance with fans and parasols.

Next week we are going to continue learning about Chinese New Year and we are going to make Chinese drums and lanterns.
