Painting Magicians

We have had a fantastic afternoon in Rufford Class learning about colour mixing. We have learnt how to use the primary colours (red, blue and yellow) to create a range of new, exciting colours. We decided that when we mix two colours we are doing a magic trick, changing it into a different colour, just like magic. We have learnt that when we mix red and blue together it makes the colour purple but we followed our curiosity and by the end of the afternoon had made a range of wonderful new colours.

We have also spent the afternoon looking at the artist Mark Rothko and learning about the painting technique that he uses. We looked at a range of his paintings and learnt that he enjoyed creating colour field paintings where he mixed a range of colours to create a block pattern. We used what we had learnt in colour mixing to make our own colour field painting.
