In Maths, we have continued recapping counting coins to overcome the misconception of counting the coins rather than the value of each coin. We have then moved on to looking at time. The children were able to use the correct language to describe time and the dates of when things occurred. For example, we were able to describe when something happened using 'before, after, morning, afternoon, evening' and then were able to provide the date of when this occurred. 

This week, we have been focusing on recognising coins. The children were able to discuss what we use coins for and enjoyed sitting in a circle and looking at a variety of coins. We talked about the different shapes, sizes and colours of the coins. The children found this quite tricky, so we are going to recap this next week in a practical way which will be fun! We discussed how there is no such thing as a 3p, 4p, 6p, 7p and 8p coin but demonstrated how we can make the amount if there is no coin of that amount. 

This week, we have continued looking at numbers. We have had a go at ordering numbers from greatest to smallest and from smallest to greatest within 100. The children really enjoyed discussing why the numbers were ordered this way and could highlight what the missing numbers were. We have also been finding one more and one less than a given number. The children found this tricky to start with so we will be recapping this next week. 

In Maths, we have been continuing our learning all about place value within 100. The children use base 10 to help compare numbers and could use the correct language to explain which ones were greater and less than a given number. Then, we used base 10 to help us learn how many tens and how many ones there are within a given number. The children used the crocodile faces to demonstrate which numbers are greater than and less than. We recapped over our knowledge of addition because some children found this a bit tricky.
