Art

For our first Art lesson, we learnt more about our focus artist - Katsushika Hokusai. We discussed his life and when he was completing his paintings and we learnt more about his most famous work 'The Great Wave'. Can you remember what was hidden inside this picture?

As we are going to be creating our own seascape paintings this half term, we have been learning more about shades and tones and thinking about the colours we would use. We looked at a range of different examples and learnt that we would be including blues, greens and yellows in our own work. We used powder paints to create a range of different colours and used white and black to lighten and darken them. We experimented with the colours, making a range of different shades before choosing our favourites, which we will then include in our own seascapes over the next few weeks.

We have finished our seascape pictures and they look absolutely incredible! We worked hard over two lessons by sketching a faint outline of our seascapes before then painting them using powder paints. All of our seascapes are individual and unique and show our different perspectives on the painting by Hokusai. Well done!
