History

We have been learning all about the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and William the Conqueror, who won this battle. We learnt about the different people who wanted to be King following the death of King Edward, including Harold Godwinson and Harald Hardrada. We acted out the battles and some of the class were representing these leaders with big armies behind them! We learnt how arrows were shot down hills in order to create an advantage, but how in the end William of Normandy won and became the King. We discussed how he built lots of castles in order to protect the country from further invasion and how all the Kings and Queens of England have since descended from him!

This week we have been working together in groups to create a timeline of events through the Battle of Hastings! We are going to have it displayed on our classroom ceiling smiley

In our final History lesson of this half term, we cemented our understanding of the Battle of Hastings by recapping the events that occurred. We then discussed the months of the year and learnt what the word 'chronological' means, before ordering the dates and placing events on a timeline in chronological order!
