Dear Children and Parents,
Welcome to Welbeck class, I hope you are all looking forward to this next academic year. I am looking forward to teaching you all this year and I know that we will have lots of fun.
Our first topic will be World War Two where we will be learning about life in Britain during the 1940's.
As well as World War Two, we will be learning about a wide range of topics this year including The Victorians and Our Wonderful World. Each topic will have a learning overview that will be shared with parents.
Reading Books
Reading will continue as before. Children will be given a book and will be expected to read at least three times in a week. Books will be changed on a Monday and Friday. The reading log will need to be filled in each week by grown ups to confirm that children have read three times that week. This log also provides an opportunity for you to share how your child has found the book through a series of questions and a comment box.
Homework
Homework will be given out to the children on a Friday and the hand in date will be the following Wednesday. Homework will be based on work that the children have been doing in class with a focus on Maths and GPS. Please email homework to the class email address welbeck@st-lukes.notts.sch.uk by 4pm on a Wednesday. It is important for children to complete their homework on time as this allows time for marking and to also get the children into a good routine before secondary school.
Swimming
Swimming lessons will take place from Wednesday 8th September in Retford. Children should come to school wearing their swimming kit underneath their sports clothes and bring an additional plastic bag to use as storage for their clothes. Children will be required to bring their own towel. Goggle letters will be sent home on Friday 3rd September and must be returned by the first lesson if you would like your child to wear goggles.
P.E
P.E. lessons will continue with Tony on a Wednesday. Children should come to school wearing the appropriate sports clothing for P.E. Children do not need to bring your uniform.
Drumba
Starting on the 7th September, Welbeck will be starting Drumba lessons therefore, children will need to be wearing their P.E. kit on these days. These sessions will run every Tuesday until half term.
Morning Routine
Children will enter and leave school through the reception area. Please ensure your child is lined up in front of the prayer garden by 8:45am.
Please can I ask for pencil cases to be left at home for this next academic year so that this limits any risk of belongings being lost or damaged. All equipment needed will be provided by school. Children are welcome to bring a book bag or school bag if they wish.
Again, please feel free to contact me if you or your child has any worries in the next year.
Miss L. Tomlinson
