Welcome to Rufford Class!

I hope you are all looking forward to this next academic year. My name is Miss Baxter and I will be the class teacher in Rufford for the next year. Mrs Green will also be working  in our class during the week throughout the year to help support our class and make us achieve the best that we can.

To start our fantastic year off, we will be learning about space, in the topic called Moon Zoom. We have lots of books to base our learning around and activities which are fun and engaging.

Following Moon Zoom, we will be learning about many more topics throughout the year such as; Bright Lights, Big City; People Who Help Us, Sea Life, Enchanted Woodland and Rumble in the Jungle. With each topic we will share a learning overview with your parents / carers.

Each week PE will be taught twice on a Monday and Wednesday. If the weather is good, some PE lessons will be outdoors so you should bring appropriate clothing and footwear to all lessons.

Every Monday a tree team will be chosen to take part in ‘show and tell’, this is where you have the opportunity to show off something which you are proud of and want to discuss with the rest of the class. It is important that you try not to bring in toys from home unless asked as it makes ‘show and tell’ less special for the other children. I look forward to seeing what you are proud of and find special.

On Fridays homework will be given out, this is where you will be set a job to complete either with support or on your own. The completed homework will be collected on Wednesdays. The homework will be based on the learning from that week or researching into next week’s topic so you will have prior knowledge before starting a new topic. Spellings and Phonic homework will also be given.

Parents and Carers, please do not hesitate to contact me if there are any questions or worries regarding your child, their work or any school matter.

Can I ask that parents / carers please read aloud with your child at least three times a week and record this in their reading diary. Reading books will be changed on a Monday and a Friday and stamps will be given to those children who have read the required amount.

Again, please feel free to contact me if you or your child has any worries in the next year. I look forward to teaching and getting to know the class.
