Welbeck Class

Welbeck - Year Five and Six

Welcome to Welbeck class for the school year 2014-15. I am Mr Delafield, the class teacher for year 5 and year 6. I am really looking forward to the learning this year, as we have some exciting topics and trips to enjoy.

Happy New Year everybody. This term is a very busy one with lots to learn during twelve short weeks.

As well as myself, there are lots of adults to help us. Our teaching assistants, Mrs Dilks and Mrs Batters, and our Literacy volunteer, Mr Wilson, will work with some children too.

PE will be taught on Tuesday and Wednesday. This will be taught by Mr Oliver who is a professional sports’ coach. Children should have their PE kits with them on these days each week.

During this term we will cover a range of topics. We will start off looking at the Aztecs and thinking about when and where the Aztec Empire was and why it is no longer there. We will then look at why we have mountains and volcanoes. After half term we will be focussing on favourite and classic authors with a special topic on William Shakespeare. We will also be working with Mr & Mrs Hawes from the Acorn Theatre to produce a play.

As well as topic work we will be:  learning about Islam; finding out about different states that materials are in and force of electro-magnetism in Science; how to find and present information safely and effectively in computing; and reading and writing in French.

Other important dates are our residential trip to Le Chateau de Chantereine centre from Monday, 20 April 2015 to Friday, 24 April 2015 and SATs week for the Y6 children -11th-15th May 2015.

Hopefully the year will be problem free, but if you do wish to see me about anything, please feel free to have a quick chat on the yard at the end of the day, or make an appointment for a longer conversation.
