English

We have continued looking at all of the different features of narrative writing. We have focused on using a range of pronouns in our writing to prevent our writing from becoming repetitive and we have discussed how we can use adjectives that are well-chosen for what we are wanting to describe. We have looked at a scene from The Lion King and have used a range of adjectives to describe the scene.

In English, the children have been introduced to the front cover of The Lion King. We described the key features of a front cover including a title, illustrator, author and the imagery used. We really focused on the pictures used and the children discussed the body language and facial expressions of the character in the book. We compiled a list of superb adjectives and then had a go at writing our own sentences using adjectives to describe. Year 2 children used a comma to list the adjectives used and then compiled this information into a paragraph.

We have continued with our story focus, Anansi and the Golden Pot. The children focused on the 5 W's, which are included in a newspaper report, and planned who, what, where, when and why, and they had to plan an answer for each one, so that they could include this in their newspaper report. The children really enjoyed adding pictures, captions, headlines and used some fantastic information in their report.

In English, we have continued looking at our story focus, Anansi and the Golden Pot. The children have been looking at newspaper reports and highlighting the key features of the report including the 5 W's. Can you tell your grownups what the 5 W's are? We planned our newspaper report by using the 5 W's as subheadings and then the children wrote underneath what they wanted to include in their report in relation to who, what, where, when and why based on the story of Anansi and the Golden Pot.

In English, the children have been introduced to our story focus for the first half of this half term. Our story focus is Anansi and the Golden Pot. We discussed the vocabulary used and some children even started making comparisons to what life is like there in comparison to the UK. The children were introduced to a newspaper and had to explain and highlight the key features which includes the 5 W's, past tense, wrote in columns and the fact that it is a non-fiction text. We gathered information about Africa from an atlas, so that we can use these facts in our newspaper report.
