Drowning Prevention Week 2023

Drowning Prevention Week 2023

The Royal Life Saving Society run a campaign called 'Drowning Prevention Week' where the aim is to educate everyone on how to stay safe around water. As St Luke's is near the canal, we are even more aware of how important it is that our children are knowledgeable about water safety and know who to contact in an emergency. Have a look at the RLSS website below to find out more alongside some super work from our classes!

Water Safety 2023

As part of our work on Drowning Prevention, we asked Tom from SwimStars to come and see us in order to explain the dangers of being around open water and what to do in an emergency. We discussed items that float and therefore would be useful and we also learnt more about items that would sink. Finally, Tom taught us about CPR and used the acronym DR ABC to explain the importance of each element - Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing, CPR/Call. We then got a chance to practise our CPR on some dummies. Thank you so much to Tom for visiting us!
