Phonics

30/01/2023 - 03/02/2023

Focus: Phoneme /ai/ written as 'a-e', phoneme /ee/ written as 'e-e'

We have continued to recap our Phase 5 sounds and then began to focus on split diagraph sounds as this is something we have been struggling with. We looked at words such as 'came', 'made', 'Steve' and 'compete'. The tricky parts are recognising the split diagraph sounds in words when reading and remembering to spell these words accurately when writing! Keep practising at home - practise makes perfect smiley

23/01/2023 - 27/01/2023

Focus: Phase 5 sounds

We have been practising a range of sounds from Phase 5 this week and will continue to do this moving forward. Please remember to continue to practise these at home! If you need any support with this, please let either myself or Miss Phillipson know.

16/01/2023 - 20/01/2023

Focus: Phoneme /ch/ written as 'tch', phoneme /sh/ alternatives, phoneme /e/ written as 'ea', phoneme /zh/ written as 's' and phoneme /w/o/ written as 'wa'

We have been super busy this week, as you can see! We have learnt lots of alternative sounds for different phonemes and have worked hard on our letter formation and sentence writing. Can you remember our 4 super sentence rules? Try and remember some of the words we have learnt this week and how we spell them.

09/01/2023 - 13/01/2023

Focus: Phoneme /l/ written as 'le', phoneme /m/ written as 'mb', phoneme /n/ written as 'gn' or 'kn' and phoneme /r/ written as 'wr'

This week, we have been focusing on the above sounds, which include silent letters. We have looked at words containing these sounds including 'bobble', 'lamb', 'gnome', 'knife' and 'wrong'. It is super important to remember that we do not sound out the silent letters!

02/01/2023 - 06/01/2023

Focus: Phoneme /j/ written as 'g(e)' 'g(i)' and 'g(y)'

Phoneme /j/ written as 'dge'

This week, we have been focusing on the above sounds. We have looked at words containing these sounds including 'gym', 'age', 'ginger' and 'dodge'. Can you think of any more? Think about how these words sound and how this is very different to how they are spelt! A super tricky week, but we worked really hard.
