We have had a fantastic first full week back at school. Here's a quick overview of what we have been up to:
In English we have been learning about the significant author Michael Morpurgo. We have been reading his story 'The Giant's Necklace' and have been thinking about different story openings. We then thought about our perfect beach and the children wrote descriptions describing what their perfect beach would look like.
In Maths we have been learning about the place value of numbers up to 6 and 7 digits. We recognised what each number represents and could write number sentences accurately. We have been practising our mental arithmetic skills and our times tables up to 12 x 12.
We had a fantastic first week swimming. All the children were fantastic at following social distancing and the new instructions at the swimming pool and on the coach. The children were assessed based on their swimming capabilities and then were put into groups where they practised the different strokes.
In Science we have started learning about adaptation and how we adapt to our surroundings. We learned about genes and DNA.
We have started our new topic 'The Aztecs' and the children used maps to identify where Mexico is in the globe. We could identify the different continents and then the children labelled the different countries in South America.
Our mini P.S.H.E topic is called 'Safety First'. We started to think about what independence means to the children and we started to think about how they can keep themselves safe as they are getting older.
I am looking forward to seeing what incredible work the children produce this week.
