Geography

We have begun a new topic in Geography this week, which focuses on hot and cold places around the world. We identified the Equator and the North and South poles on a world map, learning about cold places such as the Arctic Circle and Antarctica, which are furthest away from the Equator, and hotter places like Brazil and Indonesia which are very close to the Equator.

This week, we have focused on the features of hot and cold places and have been making comparisons between them. We learnt that places like Antarctica will experience lots of snow and ice because of the cold weather, and hotter places like the desert will have little rain and lots of sun. We learnt about different animals that would inhabit these hot or cold places, beginning to discuss the adaptation to survive in these climates.

Over the last few weeks, we have been focusing on hot and cold places and have been studying the features of these. We learnt more about how animals adapt to their environment to ensure they survive.

For our final lesson, we wrote a postcard to a friend! This allowed us to share all of the knowledge we have gained over this topic - we had to share what we had seen, what we were wearing and any other interesting information about either our hot or cold place. We then completed our end of unit assessment to see what we had learnt and we were amazing at this! We all did really well and showed that we have learnt alot about hot and cold places around the world.
