Welbeck Class

Welcome to Welbeck class for the school year 2016-2017. I am Mr Delafield, the class teacher for year 5 and year 6. I am really looking forward to the learning this year.

As well as myself, Mrs Dilks and Miss Denyer will be working with the class.

PE will be taught on Wednesday and Thursday. This will be taught by Tony McManus on Wednesday with a games focus. On Thursday I will be teaching the class to develop dance, gymnastic and athletic skills. Children should have their school PE kits with them on these days each week.

Homework will be given out on a Friday. This is to be completed by Friday morning. On Monday we will check reading diaries, change books and have our spelling and times-table tests. The Big Write will be on a Tuesday morning.

This year we will be working on three topics. The Autumn term topic is Anglo-Saxons and Vikings looking at British history from the departure of the Roman Empire to the arrival of the Normans in 1066. The Spring term will be all about transport with a focus on design and technology. Finally the Summer term will be looking at monsters in movies and mythology and we will investigate which film we think has the most accurate portrayal of a historical or mythological monster.

In our RE work we will begin by looking at early British Christianity and how we became a Christian country.

Important dates are our residential trip to the Kingswood centre from Monday, 17th April 2017 to Friday,21st  April 2017 and SATs tests for the Y6 children on the week beginning 8th May 2017.

Hopefully the year will be problem free, but if you do wish to see me about anything, please feel free to have a quick chat on the yard at the end of the day, or make an appointment for a longer conversation.
