We have continued to learn more about addition and subtraction this week, focusing initially on subtracting from and across ten. We discussed the different strategies we could use when subtracting and also how this operation makes the answer smaller than the number we started with. We then moved on to learning more about ten more and ten less and then extended our understanding of this to write these as calculations, also looking at other multiples of ten, for example 20 or 30 more than a number.

This week, we have been adding and subtracting two two-digit numbers! We have discussed a range of strategies used to help us with this and have been able to partition the numbers in order to help us add and subtract. Next week, we are moving on to Shape, so please let me know if you feel you need any more help with Number and Place Value smiley

We have started learning about shape this week and are excellent at identifying both 2D and 3D shapes. We have discovered how many sides and vertices each 2D shape has and have begun noticing patterns. We then drew some 2D shapes with a ruler and learnt about vertical and horizontal lines of symmetry within shapes!

We continue to learn about symmetry and shape this week, completing shapes to make them symmetrical and then sorting 2D shapes. We have now moved on to 3D shapes, counting the faces and edges and identifying these shapes.

This week, we have been sorting 3D shapes and completing patterns using both 2D and 3D shapes. We discussed the features of different shapes and were able to complete sequences using our knowledge.

Then, we completed our first arithmetic assessment and tried hard to remember all of our number and place value knowledge!
